Gauja National Park
The picturesque ancient valley of the Gauja River is the most popular tourist destination in Latvia. Its first visitors were hiking in the Sigulda area as far back as in the 19th century and the evidence of this is the engravings left by them on the sandstone walls of the caves. The distinctive landscape of the Gauja ancient valley with sandstone steeps, rocks and caves are definitely worth seeing while you are travelling in Latvia. And then there’s also the medieval castles in Sigulda and Turaida that are not to be missed.
